Armed men have attacked Buyo Village in Bassa Local Government Area of Plateau State, killing one unidentified person and abducting four residents in a fresh wave of violence.
Intelligence sources told Zagazola Makama that troops of Sector 1 under Operation SAFE HAVEN responded to a distress call at about 7:30 a.m. on Aug. 6 following reports of an attack on the community.
On arrival, the troops discovered that the assailants had already fled after abducting four residents identified as Mr. Paul Ijah, Benjamin Idaho, Mrs. Blessing Danladi, and Asabe Danladi.
The troops also found the body of an unidentified victim who had sustained gunshot wounds at the scene.
During a search of the area, security personnel recovered three empty cases of 7.62mm ammunition along with other items believed to be connected to the attack.
The body of the deceased was evacuated by personnel of the Keystone Division of the Nigeria Police Force in Bassa to a mortuary for further procedures.
Security sources said troops have launched a search-and-rescue operation to track the fleeing gunmen and secure the release of the abducted victims, while efforts are ongoing to identify those responsible for the attack.
