Suspected Fulani and Bassa assailants launched an attack on Idochie community in Oganenigu Ward, Dekina Local Government Area of Kogi State, razing at least 10 houses during a communal clash on Saturday evening.
Sources told Zagazola Makama that the attackers, armed with AK-47 rifles, stormed the area around 5:00 p.m., firing sporadically and causing residents to flee into nearby bushes for safety.
Eyewitnesses said the gunmen looted properties and torched several households, including a Jincheng motorcycle and other valuables, while only four buildings among them a mosque were spared in the violence.
A community member, Adamu Bala, 45, a local farmer and vigilante, said he narrowly escaped the attack and claimed to have identified one of the assailants as a known individual from the Bassa community.
“No life was lost during the attack, but the destruction was massive. They set fire to people’s homes and took whatever they could carry,” Bala recounted.
Security sources said they are making efforts to calm tensions and restore normalcy in the area.
