In a controversial twist, the notorious gang of the late Kachalla Halilu Sububu, also known as Buzu, has announced a new operational leader. Kachalla Sanda, alias Dan Kwallisa, who formerly served as the second-in-command (2IC) under Halilu, has now taken over the leadership of the group.
This announcement follows Halilu Sububu’s death during a military operation in Zamfara State.
The gang, known for terrorizing communities in Zamfara and other parts of Northwestern Nigeria, claimed responsibility for capturing and burning an armored military carrier in Zurmi Local Government Area (LGA), Zamfara State.
Profile of Kachalla Sanda (Dan Kwallisa)
Kachalla Sanda, also known as Dan Kwallisa, was Halilu Sububu’s trusted lieutenant, managing the gang's operations as his deputy. His promotion to the leadership role solidifies his position within the group, and he is now in charge of their extensive criminal network. The gang’s base of operations remains within Zurmi LGA, particularly around the vicinity of Faru, off Gurbin Baure, where they continue to coordinate attacks, kidnappings, and other criminal activities.
Background on Kachalla Halilu Sububu
Halilu Sububu, who was killed in a recent military operation, was a notorious bandit leader whose influence spanned across Zamfara and neighboring states. He was responsible for orchestrating numerous attacks on rural communities, raids, kidnappings for ransom, and other violent acts that disrupted local governance and economy in the region.
Halilu operated with a large number of heavily armed followers and was involved in inter-bandit rivalries, notably competing for dominance with other infamous bandit leaders such as Bello Turji and Gwaska Dankarami. His reign of terror extended beyond Zamfara, with his group often crossing borders into Kaduna, Niger, and Kebbi states to carry out their violent campaigns.
Despite his death, Halilu’s gang remains operational under the new leadership of Kachalla Sanda, continuing to pose a major threat to peace and security in Zamfara and the entire North West region.
The Nigerian military and local vigilantes are continuing efforts to dismantle these criminal networks and restore order to the affected communities.
