A personnel of the Kano Road Traffic Agency (KAROTA), Yahaya Isma’il Idris, 35, has died after being thrown from a moving truck in the early hours of Thursday along Maiduguri Road in Kano metropolis.
Zagazola Makama gathered that the incident occurred on April 24, at approximately 4:30 a.m. when Idris, who was on night duty, stopped a truck with registration number BWR 457 XC, loaded with goods.
The vehicle, driven by 25-year-old Yakubu Abdulsalam from Fika Local Government Area of Yobe State, was carrying two passengers: Tunde Momodu, 31, from Edo State, and Sagir Yusuf, 21, from Bichi Local Government Area, Kano State.
Idris reportedly requested the driver to present a waybill for the goods being transported. After the driver failed to provide one, Idris entered the truck to conduct a further inspection.
Shortly afterward, the driver allegedly sped off, and as the vehicle approached the Muhammadu Buhari Interchange flyover, the suspects reportedly pushed Idris out of the moving truck.
Idris sustained severe injuries and was rushed to Murtala Muhammad Specialist Hospital, where he was confirmed dead.
Police sources said that the driver and the two passengers have been arrested and are in custody.
“Investigation is ongoing to ascertain the full circumstances surrounding the incident,” the sources said.
