Malian Army Captures Key Daesh Leader in Anderamboukane Operation

The Malian Armed Forces (FAMa) have recorded a significant victory in the fight against terrorism with the capture of Ahmad Ag Ditta, a prominent leader of Daesh, during a military operation in the Anderamboukane area of Ménaka Region.

A statement by FAMa on Sunday said the operation, based on accurate intelligence, neutralized several terrorist elements affiliated with Daesh and led to the arrest of Ag Ditta, described as a key figure in the terrorist network.

Ag Ditta served as a liaison between the local population under Daesh control and its senior leaders, Abdou Chounguel and Youssouf Ould Choghib.

The military said Ag Ditta was also a financier for the organization, facilitating the transfer of foreign funds and enforcing taxes on local populations.

His role was similar to that of Abdoulwahab Ould Choghib, another high-ranking Daesh operative neutralized by FAMa in Inarabane in January 2024.

The arrest of Ag Ditta is expected to provide valuable intelligence to FAMa, further enhancing its efforts to dismantle terrorist networks and restore peace to the region.

“This capture testifies to the determination of FAMa to eradicate the forces of evil that have caused suffering in this region for too long,” the statement said.

FAMa expressed its commitment to ensuring the security and stability of Mali, calling the operation a decisive step in the ongoing fight against terrorism.
