MNJTF Commissions Water Project in Barkalam Sector 2 Chad
On 26 July 2024, the Multinational Joint Task Force (MNJTF) commissioned a water project in the Barkalam community located in Sector 2 of Chad.
Overseeing the event, Major General Ibrahim Sallau Ali, the Force Commander, highlighted the importance of the project for the local populace. This project, executed by the DCI groups, is part of the European Union initiative aimed at stabilizing communities around the Lake Chad basin.
General Ali emphasized MNJTF's commitment to supporting local communities. He pointed out that the water project is one among several initiatives aimed at supporting the rural communities. He further acknowledged the diligent efforts of the DCI groups for their efficient and timely execution of the project, which is expected to play a crucial role in enhancing the well-being of Barkalam residents.
Representing the local community, the Sultan of Barkalam , Mahamat Modu, expressed gratitude towards the MNJTF for their support. He noted that the provision of accessible and clean water would substantially enhance the quality of life for the residents adding that such initiatives would help to maintain the peace and stability that the community currently enjoys.
The newly commissioned water project is equipped with a solar-powered borehole, a substantial 10,000-litre reservoir, and 6 taps placed for easy access. This ensures that the Barkalam community can enjoy a sustainable source of clean water, aligning with broader efforts to enhance the living conditions in the Lake Chad basin.
