MNJTF Troops Repell ISWAP Attack in Monguno

The troops of Sector 3, Multi National Joint Task Force(MNJTF) on Sunday successfully repelled attacks by the Islamic State of West Africa Province (ISWAP) in the North East of Monguno, Borno state.
It was gathered that terrorists who came in gun trucks and motorcycles attacked the town through Charlie one with heavy weapons at about 1:30 a.m.
A top intelligence sources told Zagazola Makama, a Counter Insurgency Expert and Security Analyst in the Lake Chad, that they were subdued by troops who engaged them in a heavy gunbattle which lasted till 2:30am forcing them to retreat.
The sources, however, did not mentioned numbers of casualties recorded in the gun fight, but believed that the attack was in retaliation to the killings of scores of ISWAP during MNJTF offensive in the Sabon Tumbum and Jibularam in Marte Local government area.
The sources said that On July 1, at about 10pm, top leaders of the ISWAP on about 15 Hilux vehicles, from the axis of Kwalaram, arrived Sabon Tumbu to evacuate the dead and wounded fighters and moved them toward the axis of Daban Gajere.
"Those who died were later moved toward the axis between Kekeno and Barwati general area in Kukawa Local government area, where they are buried.
"The insurgents later assembled their fighters in the forest of Arge before proceeding to launched attack in the town of Monguno,"said the sources.
On June 18, the ISWAP attacked Monguno town, killed three members of the Civilian Joint Task Force and Kidnapped three Humaniterian workers.
Monguno which is about 135 kilometers to the restive North East capital of Maidugiri is housing morethan 154,000 Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs).
