Multinational Joint Task Force thwarts ISWAP revenge attack near Bargaram, eliminates five terrorists

Troops of the Multinational Joint Task Force (MNJTF) have successfully repelled a well-coordinated revenge attack by ISWAP terrorists along the Cameroon-Nigeria border near Bargaram, in a demonstration of resilience and operational superiority.

Sources told Zagazola Makama that the insurgents launched the attack to avenge their humiliating defeat during an encounter at Bulgaram on the night of February 18–19, 2026, where five ISWAP fighters, including the top foreign commander Omar al-Shami, were killed by MNJTF forces.

The sources said that February 26 attack, therefore, was a direct attempt to strike back at the MNJTF and regain lost ground, said an a senior officer who participated in engagements describing the operation as “a decisive encounter that reaffirmed our determination to deny terrorists any safe haven or capacity to strike across borders.”

The MNJTF troops, anticipating the enemy’s movements through intelligence and reconnaissance, fortified their positions and responded with precision.

According to sources, the engagement launched under the cover of night was met by decisive fire power by the MNJTF troops who displayed gallantry and precision in repelled the attack, neutralizing several insurgents the process and secured a large cache of weapons,” the source added.

Recovered from the terrorists were an array of high-calibre weaponry and ammunition, including two AK-47 assault rifles, one M21 rifle (No. 11021), one PKM machine gun (No. NT 234), an anti-tank rocket, and four hand grenades. Ammunition seized comprised 47 rounds of 5.56×45 mm, 112 rounds of 7.62×39 mm, and 429 rounds of 7.62×54 mm, alongside six AK-47 magazine boxes and four M21 magazine boxes.

The sources pointed out the importance of coordination between Nigerian and Cameroonian forces, stating that “the joint posture, rapid response, and discipline displayed by the troops stressed the MNJTF’s operational effectiveness and deterrent capability in the region.”

The encounter not only prevented ISWAP from regaining momentum in the cross-border corridor but also served as a stern warning to foreign and local jihadist elements seeking to exploit border vulnerabilities.

“The bravery, skill, and resolve of the troops on both sides of the frontier have ensured that our communities remain protected, and terrorists are reminded that any attempt to avenge defeats or project terror will be met with resolute force,” the officer concluded.

The MNJTF has reaffirmed its commitment to sustained operations, border surveillance, and intelligence-led interventions to degrade terrorist capabilities and safeguard regional security in the Lake Chad Basin.
