Two young men drowned in a dam in Kazaure town, Jigawa State, while attempting to escape arrest during a raid on an illicit drugs joint by operatives of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA).
Sources told Zagazola Makama that the NDLEA operatives stormed the drugs joint at Ganguli in Kazaure at about 3:00 p.m. on Saturday.
“Two suspects, identified as Garzali Garba, 22, of Tsohon Kafib Quarters, Kazaure, and Usama Ahmed, 21, of Kanti Quarters, Kazaure, attempted to evade arrest by diving into a nearby dam.
“Unfortunately, both drowned in the process,” the sources said.
Security operatives comprising the Police, Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) personnel, were swiftly deployed to prevent a breakdown of law and order.
The NDLEA office in Kazaure was fortified to forestall mob action, while stakeholders were engaged to calm residents and maintain peace.
