At least nine persons have been killed following a clash between Kogi State vigilantes and a Fulani vigilante group in Yagba East Local Government Area of Kogi State.

The incident occurred at about 11 a.m. on Aug. 6, when troops of the Nigerian Army’s 12 Brigade, deployed at a patrol base in Aiyetoro Kiri, responded to a reported clash between the two groups.

According to a military source, preliminary investigation indicated that the confrontation was triggered by an argument which subsequently resulted in the death of a son of the leader of the Fulani vigilante group.

The death reportedly sparked a reprisal attack, during which nine residents of Abugi community were killed, while several others sustained injuries.

The injured victims were evacuated to Bida General Hospital for medical treatment.

Security personnel have been deployed to the area to prevent further escalation and restore calm, while investigation into the incident continues.
