One civilian sustained injuries after a truck triggered an improvised explosive device (IED) along the Damboa-Kumala-Maiduguri road in Borno State.

Security sources said that the incident occurred at about 11:30 a.m. on Thursday during a dominance patrol by troops of the 25 Brigade.

According to the sources, the troops were conducting security operations along the Main Supply Route (MSR) linking Damboa, Bulabulin, Kumala and Maiduguri when the explosive device was detonated by a civilian truck near Kumala in Damboa Local Government Area.

The explosion resulted in injuries to one civilian, who was attended to following the incident.

The sources said the troops immediately secured the area and continued their mission to ensure the safety of road users along the route.

As part of the operation, the troops provided armed escort for 29 civilian vehicles travelling from Damboa through Kumala to Maiduguri.

They subsequently escorted another convoy of 27 civilian vehicles on the return journey from Maiduguri to Damboa.

The military has continued route clearance and dominance patrols along major highways in Borno State to protect commuters and counter threats posed by terrorist groups operating in the region.
