Operation FANSAN YAMMA: Troops Neutralise Terrorists, Recover Weapons in Zamfara

Troops of Joint Task Force North West, Operation FANSAN YAMMA (JTF NW OPFY), have neutralised terrorists and recovered weapons during offensive operations in Birnin Magaji Local Government Area of Zamfara State.
The troops also intercepted a suspected terrorist courier conveying 180 explosive materials believed to have been destined for terrorist elements operating in the state.
Credible security sources told Zagazola Makama that the operations were conducted on Aug. 14, as troops of Sector 2 intensified clearance operations against terrorist groups in the area.
During the operation, troops made contact with terrorists around Garin Kaso and engaged them in a fierce firefight.
Two terrorists were confirmed neutralised during the initial encounter, while troops recovered two rifles, two magazines, nine rounds of ammunition and two motorcycles.
As the operation progressed, another group of terrorists attempted to ambush the troops from concealed positions.
The troops responded decisively, fought through the ambush and inflicted further casualties on the terrorists, forcing the surviving elements to flee the area.
Although the exact number of casualties from the subsequent encounter could not be immediately established, sources said reports from communities in the general area indicated that several terrorists with apparent gunshot wounds, alongside the bodies of some of their colleagues, were evacuated by the fleeing elements.
The development is believed to have further disrupted the activities of the terrorists and demonstrated the sustained pressure being brought to bear on their operational networks.
The recovery of weapons and motorcycles, coupled with the interception of explosive materials, is expected to further degrade the terrorists’ ability to conduct attacks and sustain their operations across Zamfara.
Troops of Operation FANSAN YAMMA have continued to intensify offensive and intelligence-led operations across the North-West in a renewed effort to dismantle terrorist enclaves, deny criminal elements freedom of movement and restore security to affected communities.
