Police arrest human trafficker, rescue five minors in Katsina

The Police Command in Katsina State has arrested a suspected human trafficker and rescued five persons from illegal movement out of the country.
Sources said that following an intelligence tip-off, the divisional surveillance team intercepted Rukayya Lawal, 45, of Yarogel, at Central Motor Katsina Park at about 12:10 p.m. on Feb. 18.
The team rescued five victims, identified as Maryam Jamilu, 20; Abdurazak Salisu, 18; Hauwa U. Murtala, 15; Danjuma Sule, 19; and Faiza Rabe, 14, all from the same address.
According to preliminary interrogation, the victims stated that Lawal had planned to traffic them from Nigeria to Algeria to serve as house help.
The suspect has been taken into custody, and investigation into the matter has commenced. Authorities said further developments would be communicated as the case progresses.
