Six suspects have been arrested by the FCT Police Command in connection with a violent incident in Kuchibuyi village, Byazhin, Abuja, which led to the assault of a Divisional Police Officer (DPO) and destruction of a patrol vehicle.
Sources told Zagazola Makama that the incident occurred on Aug. 2, 2025, at about 9:40 a.m., following a distress call received at the Kubwa Area Command about a riotous situation linked to a land dispute in the area.
According to the sources , tension flared when one Roland Aigbedion, a property developer and owner of Grow Home Estate, arrived at Kuchibuyi village to inspect his allocated plot of land. He was allegedly accused by local youths of collaborating with military authorities to seize community land.
It was gathered that the Defence Headquarters had recently received a plot in the vicinity from the FCT Minister, which may have triggered suspicions and hostility.
During the visit, Aigbedion was reportedly held hostage by the youths. Police from Byazhin, Kubwa, and Dutse Alhaji Divisions were quickly deployed to rescue him and de-escalate the situation.
Upon arrival, the riotous group, armed with cutlasses, clubs, and other dangerous weapons, allegedly attacked the police operatives, during which the DPO of Byazhin Division was physically assaulted and the patrol vehicle was vandalised—its windscreen and bonnet damaged.
Security operatives applied minimum force to disperse the crowd and arrested six suspects: Philemon Jeje, Abdullahi Abubakar, Luka Dogara Joshua, Tijani Haruna, Stephen Sunday and Ahmed Suleiman.
The developer was safely rescued without injury and taken to a secure location.
The sources say normalcy has been restored to the area, and it remains under close surveillance to prevent further escalation. Investigations are ongoing to identify other culprits involved in the attack.
