The Katsina State Police Command on Thursday night confirmed the release of 29 kidnapped victims through the ongoing peace accord with bandits under the Operation Safe Corridor initiative.
Sources said the victims, comprising males and females, regained freedom at about 8:40 p.m. on Sept. 18.
According to sources , 26 victims were released at the outskirts of Sheme village in Faskari Local Government Area, while three others were released at Farin Dutse–Fankama, along Faskari–Sabon Layin Maigora road.
The sources explained that their release followed sustained dialogue and the existing peace accord between the security agencies, government, community leaders, and repentant bandits under the Operation Safe Corridor framework.
“The 29 victims have since been reunited with their families after undergoing preliminary medical checks and counselling,” said the sources.
The sources noted that monitoring of the situation was ongoing to ensure the full implementation of the peace accord and to consolidate gains made in addressing insecurity in the area.
