Military, Police repel bandits’ attack in Katsina, confirm casualties

The troops of Operation FANSAN YANMA in collaboration with the police, repelled armed banditry attack in Awari Yashe and Sararawa villages of Kusada Local Government Area in the early hours of Thursday.
Zagazola learnt from sources that the incident happened at about 3:25 a.m., when a group of suspected bandits invaded the communities.
The troops in collaboration with the police and Community Watch patrol teams, mobilised swiftly to the scene and engaged the assailants in a gun duel.
The sources explained that during the exchange, one resident, identified as Sama’ila Dahiru, aged 40, sustained gunshot injuries, while an unspecified number of livestock were rustled by the attackers.
The sources added that in the course of their escape through the Gidan Mutun Daya–Kofa highway, the perpetrators caused a fatal road accident, leading to the death of one unidentified victim.
“All the victims were evacuated to the General Hospital in Kankia, where the deceased was certified dead by a medical doctor,” he said.
He assured that efforts had been intensified to track down the fleeing suspects and recover the rustled animals, while patrols in the affected axis had been reinforced to forestall further attacks.
