The Ekiti State Police Command has detained four foreign nationals for questioning following reports of their suspicious presence in Iyin-Ekiti, Irepodun/Ifelodun Local Government Area of the state.

Police sources said the suspects were apprehended after residents raised concerns over the presence of unfamiliar individuals in the community, leading to tension and apprehension among residents.

According to the sources, a distress call was received by the Iyin-Ekiti Police Division on June 9, prompting officers to immediately mobilise to the area.

“The report indicated that some strange faces had been sighted within the town, creating anxiety and confusion among residents,” the source said.

Upon arrival at the scene, police operatives intercepted and arrested four men identified as Muhammad Yusuf, 47; Ghani Abdul, 36; Abdul Jabbar, 46; and Yusuf Muhammad, 47.

The suspects reportedly told investigators that they were nationals of Pakistan who had travelled to Nigeria to sell mobile phones and engage in sightseeing activities.

However, police sources said the men were unable to provide satisfactory explanations or documentation regarding their activities and presence in the community at the time of their arrest.

As a result, they were taken into custody for further questioning and verification of their identities and intentions.

Police authorities said investigations were ongoing to establish the circumstances surrounding the suspects’ presence in the area and to determine whether any laws had been violated.

The command urged residents to remain calm and continue to cooperate with security agencies by reporting suspicious movements and activities.

It also reassured the public that all necessary steps were being taken to ensure the safety and security of communities across the state.
