Police Arrest Four Suspects, Recover Nine Illegal Firearms in Ekiti

The Ekiti State Police Command has arrested four suspects and recovered nine unlicensed firearms along with 24 live cartridges during an intelligence-led operation in Aramoko Ekiti, Ekiti West Local Government Area of the state.

Sources said the operation was carried out by operatives of the Violent Crime Response Unit (VCRU) following credible intelligence on unlawful possession of firearms within the area.

According to the sources, the Commander of the VCRU, CSP Falowo Bamikole, led a team of detectives who cordoned off two residential flats in Aramoko Ekiti in the early hours of June 8.

“The operation was based on credible intelligence, and the team executed a search warrant on the premises where one suspect was initially arrested,” the source said.

The first suspect, identified as Oyebanji Seun, 32, also known as “Egbo,” was arrested at the scene, with two unlicensed barrel firearms and 11 live cartridges reportedly recovered from his residence.

Further investigations led to the arrest of three additional suspects: Ajibade Simeon, 45, from Erijiyan Ekiti; Ige Dada, 36; and Adeoye Rasak, 50, all residents of Aramoko Ekiti.

Police sources disclosed that additional firearms and ammunition were recovered from the suspects during the follow-up operations, bringing the total to nine unlicensed firearms and 24 live cartridges.

The suspects are currently in custody and undergoing interrogation as investigations continue to determine the source of the weapons and possible links to other criminal activities.

The police command assured residents of its commitment to sustaining intelligence-driven operations aimed at curbing the proliferation of illegal arms in the state.

It also urged members of the public to continue providing credible information to support ongoing security operations.
