The Edo State Police Command has confirmed the recovery of the decomposing body of a cattle rearer, Adamu Banyi, aged 50, who was earlier declared missing in Isuwa community along the Benin/Agbor Road.
Police sources told Zagazola Makama that the incident was reported on April 10 by one Mohammed Alamin, a resident of No. 10 Yoruba Street, Boji-Boji Owa, Agbor, Delta State.
Alamin had informed officers at Okhuaihe Division that his employee, who grazed cattle for him in the Isuwa area, was missing and could not be found in any detention facility.
The sources said following the initial report, Alamin returned to the station on April 15 requesting police escort to the area where the missing herder normally operated. The police team accompanied him to the bush, where a search led to the discovery of Banyi’s decomposing corpse.
The police said further inspection of the scene revealed an expanded cartridge suspected to have been used in the killing, as well as the victim’s torchlight and mobile phone.
The Command said efforts were ongoing to arrest the perpetrators, who are currently at large, while the investigation continues.
The victim was described as dark in complexion, about six feet tall, with tribal marks, and fluent in both English and Hausa languages.
The police assured that no stone would be left unturned in ensuring justice for the deceased and his family.
