The Benue State Police Command has uncovered and dismantled an illegal firearms manufacturing factory in Shangev Tiev village, Konshisha Local Government Area of the state, recovering an AK-47 rifle, ammunition, and various gun-making equipment.
Police sources confirmed on Wednesday that the operation was carried out by tactical operatives of the Command at about 1600hrs, following credible intelligence on the activities of one Tyozer (surname unknown), believed to be the operator of the illegal factory.
The suspect allegedly used the facility to manufacture firearms, train criminals in handling weapons, and produce bullet-resistant charms used for criminal operations.
“Upon storming the location, the suspects took to their heels and fled into the nearby forest upon sighting the police team,” the command said.
Recovered items at the scene included one locally fabricated AK-47 rifle, 18 rounds of assorted live ammunition, 20 spent shells, two welding gas cylinders, and several tools believed to be used in the production of firearms.
The police sources added that efforts have been intensified to apprehend the fleeing factory owner and his accomplices, assuring members of the public of continued efforts to rid the state of illegal arms and criminal networks.
