Police Foil Two Kidnap Attempts, Rescue 20 Victims in Katsina
The Katsina State Police Command has successfully foiled two kidnapping attempts in Jibia and Faskari Local Government Areas (LGAs), rescuing 20 kidnapped victims in the process.
The Command’s Public Relations Officer, SP Gambo Isah, confirmed the development in a statement issued on Sunday in Katsina.
According to the statement, the first incident occurred on Dec. 7 at about 7:00 p.m. at Kwanar Makera along the Katsina–Magamar Jibia Road in Jibia LGA. Armed bandits, wielding AK-47 rifles, opened fire on a moving vehicle with the intention of abducting its occupants.
“Operatives attached to the Jibia Divisional Police Headquarters swiftly responded to a distress call and engaged the bandits in a fierce gun duel. Due to the superior firepower of the police, the bandits abandoned their plan and fled the scene with gunshot wounds,” Isah said.
He added that all 10 passengers in the vehicle were rescued unhurt.
In a similar operation, on the same date at about 8:30 p.m., suspected bandits ambushed a passenger vehicle at Marabar Bangori along the Funtua–Gusau Road in Faskari LGA.
“The police operatives responded promptly, engaging the bandits in another gun battle, which led to the rescue of 10 additional victims,” Isah stated.
The Commissioner of Police in Katsina State, CP Aliyu Abubakar Musa, commended the officers for their gallantry and professionalism in thwarting the attacks. He charged them to sustain the momentum in the ongoing fight against crime and criminality in the state.
The Command urged members of the public to continue providing timely information to security agencies to enhance the effectiveness of their operations.
