Police operatives in Zamfara have shot dead eight armed bandits during a gun battle in Fegin Kanawa village of Wonaka District, Gusau Local Government Area, following an ambush laid by the criminals.

According to a report from the Officer-in-Charge of the Tactical Zonal Force Squad (ZFS), the incident occurred on Friday at about 4:30 p.m. when a joint team of Police personnel and Civilian Joint Task Force (JTF) from Fegin Mahe village responded to intelligence about an impending bandit attack.

Unbeknownst to the operatives, the bandits had already positioned themselves in ambush and opened fire on the team as they approached the targeted area. The operatives responded with superior firepower, resulting in the death of eight bandits, while several others escaped into the bush with possible gunshot wounds.

During the exchange, Inspector Tasi’u Lawali of the 42 Police Mobile Force (PMF), Gusau, sustained gunshot injuries to his hand and mouth. He was evacuated to the Federal Medical Centre (FMC) Gusau for urgent medical attention and is reported to be in stable condition.
