Police Officer Attacked by Mob Dies in Jos

A police inspector who was severely injured after being attacked by a mob in Jos North Local Government Area of Plateau State has died, the Plateau State Police Command confirmed on Tuesday.
Intelligence sources told Zagazola Makama that the officer, Inspector Ikale Muhammed, succumbed to his injuries at about 5:30 a.m. on March 4, 2025, while receiving treatment at Bingham University Teaching Hospital. His remains have been deposited at the hospital’s mortuary for autopsy.
The attack occurred on March 1, 2025, at Polo Roundabout, where Inspector Muhammed and another officer from ‘C’ Division attempted to arrest a suspect found in possession of hard drugs.
According to sources, the suspect fled, abandoning a bag containing illicit substances, including Indian hemp, and escaped into the Jenta Adamu area.
Shortly after, the suspect allegedly returned with a group of motorcycle riders, who assaulted the officers while they were transporting the recovered drugs to the station. Inspector Muhammed sustained grievous injuries during the attack and was rushed to the hospital for urgent medical attention.
Police reinforcements were deployed to the area, and a Bajaj Boxer motorcycle was recovered at the scene.
The sources said that the Plateau State Police Command has launched an investigation and is intensifying efforts to track down and apprehend the perpetrators.
