The Police in Zamfara State have commenced an investigation into the disappearance of a student of the Federal University Gusau (FUG), who was reported missing under suspicious circumstances.

Police sources said the student, identified as Aliyu Jamilu, 26, from Tsafe Local Government Area of the state, was declared missing after he failed to return to his hostel following an outing with friends.

According to the sources, information about the incident was received from a police operative attached to the university, who reported that the student had been missing since the night of June 8.

Preliminary findings indicated that Aliyu and some of his friends had gone to a nearby shop in Sabon Gida Village to make purchases when they allegedly encountered unidentified persons.

“The students reportedly told investigators that unknown individuals attempted to grab them while they were returning to their hostel.

“They managed to escape and ran in different directions for safety. However, upon regrouping at the hostel, they discovered that Aliyu Jamilu was missing,” the source said.

Following the report, the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) of Kotorkoshi Division mobilised officers to the university community to conduct an on-the-spot assessment and gather further information.

The sources added that the student’s companions had been invited for interviews as part of ongoing efforts to establish the circumstances surrounding his disappearance.

Police authorities said investigations and search efforts were ongoing to locate the missing student and determine whether foul play was involved.

They urged members of the public with useful information that could assist in tracing the student’s whereabouts to contact the nearest police station or security agency.

The authorities reassured residents and members of the university community of their commitment to uncovering the facts surrounding the incident and ensuring the safety of students.
