The Edo State Police Command has rescued 17 passengers who were abducted by suspected kidnappers in the early hours of Tuesday along the Okpella–Auchi road near the forest reserve by Ebirra Camp, Okpella.
Police sources said the victims were travelling in an 18-seater bus with registration number KMC 430 ZE, en route to Benin from Kano, when the vehicle was ambushed around 3:30 a.m.
A swift response was initiated following a distress call. Operatives from Okpella Division, Safer Highway patrol, and Mobile Police Force 60 collaborated to mobilize and intercept the scene of the incident.
“Seventeen passengers were successfully rescued and brought to the station,” the police said, adding that three of the victims who sustained varying degrees of injury are currently receiving treatment at Aje Hospital in Okpella.
However, one female passenger remains unaccounted for. Intensive bush combing operations are ongoing to locate and rescue her.
