A high-speed police chase along the Gwarinpa-Kubwa service lane on Friday evening ended in a crash after a suspect attempted to escape with a police officer inside his vehicle.

Police sources told Zagazola Makama that the  incident occurred at about 6:00 p.m. when personnel of the Crack Squad, led by ASP Segun Ozioma Edene, flagged down a Toyota Venza with registration number GWA 151 BM during a routine patrol.

During a search, officers discovered a package containing substances suspected to be Indian hemp and other illicit drugs. The driver, identified as Ahmed Abdul, 25, of Harmony Estate, Dawaki, was asked to repark his vehicle to prevent an escape attempt.

However, in a dramatic turn of events, Inspector Raphael Oghalla, who had entered the vehicle for security purposes, found himself trapped when the suspect suddenly sped off at high speed. The chase ended when the vehicle lost control, skidded off the road, and crashed into a gutter.

The suspect sustained minor bruises to his neck, while Inspector Oghalla suffered serious chest injuries and is currently receiving medical care at the Police Clinic in Area 1, Garki.

The damaged vehicle has been evacuated to Dawaki Police Station, and the suspect remains in custody as investigations continue.
