Security forces in Plateau State have conducted a joint show-of-force operation across major flashpoints in Jos metropolis and the Bukuru general area to ensure the safety of worshippers attending Sunday church services.
The operation was conducted at about 7:30 a.m. on Sunday, Aug. 9, by troops of Operation ENDURING PEACE (OPEP) in conjunction with personnel of the 551 Nigerian Air Force Station, Keystone, the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) and other security agencies.
Sources said that the joint operation covered major flashpoints within Jos metropolis and the Bukuru general area.
The exercise was aimed at providing security for church services, reassuring residents and denying criminal elements the freedom of action to carry out attacks or other criminal activities.
Personnel were deployed to strategic locations as part of efforts to maintain a visible security presence around places of worship and other vulnerable areas during the services.
The coordinated operation also served as a deterrent to criminal elements who might seek to exploit the movement of worshippers or large gatherings to carry out attacks.
The security forces maintained patrols and surveillance throughout the exercise, with the operation conducted without any reported incident.
The operation was described as hitch-free, with worshippers able to attend and conclude their church services without disruption.
