Security operatives have foiled a coordinated attack by armed bandits targeting Tsafe town in Tsafe Local Government Area of Zamfara State.
Security sources told Zagazola that the attack occurred on April 26 at about 3:00 p.m. when a large number of armed bandits advanced towards the eastern axis of the town, firing sporadically in an attempt to breach the community and the vicinity of the divisional police headquarters.
The sources said personnel of the Police divisional headquarters immediately mounted a defensive response and engaged the attackers in a sustained firefight.
According to the sources, the operation was reinforced by local hunters and intelligence assets, which provided support and situational awareness during the engagement.
They added that troops of Operation FANSAN YANMA stationed in Tsafe later joined the operation, deploying a rapid response force that strengthened the defensive line and helped establish fire superiority over the attackers.
The combined security response forced the bandits to retreat into nearby forested areas, with intelligence suggesting that several of them may have sustained gunshot injuries or killed during the exchange.
No casualties were recorded among security operatives, and no civilian deaths had been confirmed at the time of reporting.
The sources said security forces have intensified patrols across Tsafe town and surrounding routes to prevent further infiltration, while follow-up pursuit operations are ongoing to track the fleeing attackers.
They added that the situation remains under control and is being closely monitored by security agencies.
