Security forces have rescued students of Gateway Polytechnic, Ibara Remo, who were kidnapped and held in captivity for several days in Ogun State.

The students, who had been in captivity since July 30, 2026, were rescued on Aug. 5 by a combined team of troops of the Nigerian Army’s 81 Division, personnel of the Nigeria Police Force, Department of State Services (DSS) and local vigilantes.

According to a military source, the operation was conducted under Operation MESA following efforts by the security agencies to locate and rescue the abducted students.

The source said the rescue operation involved a firefight with the kidnappers, during which one of the students sustained a gunshot wound.

The injured student was immediately evacuated to a hospital for medical attention.

The rescued students were subsequently taken to safety, while security forces continued efforts to track down the fleeing kidnappers.
