Atleast seven passengers were brutally murdered following an attack on an 18-seater commercial bus by suspected youths of Mangun Village, in Mangu Local Government Area of the state.

Security sources told Zagazola Makama that the  incident occurred on June 20, 2025, at about 9:47 p.m., when the bus, which was coming from Zaria en route Qua’an-Pan in Plateau State, with 28 passengers, was intercepted and attacked. The group, mostly Hausas, were travelling to attend a wedding ceremony. But what began as a hopeful journey ended in an unspeakable tragedy.

As the bus snaked its way through the darkening Plateau roads at around 9:47 p.m., it was suddenly ambushed. According to eyewitnesses, a group of irate youths from the community intercepted the vehicle near the outskirts of the town and what followed was a scene of chaos and unimaginable violence.

Seven of the passengers were killed on the spot, their lives extinguished in a flash. One other traveller was left in critical condition, while six more suffered various degrees of injuries. The attackers went on to set the vehicle ablaze, its charred remains now a grim symbol of senseless destruction.

Among the haunting aftermath was a glimmer of humanity. Local leaders, moved by a sense of urgency and moral duty, stepped in to rescue 14 passengers who were still unharmed. Their intervention may have prevented a larger-scale massacre.

The injured were rushed to the General Hospital in Mangu, where they received urgent medical attention. Some of the survivors remain in a state of shock, their faces etched with fear, confusion, and grief, victims of a conflict they neither caused nor understood.

Sources at the Plateau Police Command disclosed that tactical teams have been deployed to Mangun Village, and efforts are ongoing to apprehend the perpetrators of the heinous act.
