Six family members of Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP) terrorists have surrendered to troops of the Nigerian Army in Pulka, Gwoza Local Government Area of Borno State.
The family members surrendered at about 8:49 a.m. on Sept. 28 to troops of Operation HADIN KAI in Pulka.
Preliminary investigation revealed that the individuals escaped from a terrorist enclave in Bulakambula, Bama Local Government Area.
The victims were subsequently handed over to representatives of the Grassroots Initiative for Strengthening Community Resilience (GISCOR) at its Pulka office for further assistance and processing.
In a related development, the troops at about 8:55 a.m. intercepted and rescued a female minor, identified as a family member of an ISWAP terrorist, at Hudugum village along the Gwoza–Limankara road in Gwoza LGA.
Preliminary investigation revealed that the minor had escaped from a terrorist enclave in Waa, in the Mandara Mountains.
The rescued minor was subsequently handed over to the Gwoza IDP Camp authorities for appropriate care and further processing.
The developments underscore the continued pressure on terrorist elements operating in the Gwoza axis, as individuals associated with the insurgents continue to escape their enclaves and seek safety in areas controlled by security forces.
