Six killed, two injured in attack on mining site in Barkin Ladi

Six persons have been killed and two others injured after suspected armed assailants attacked a mining site in Lajam Marit village, Ropp District of Barkin Ladi Local Government Area of Plateau State.
Security sources told Zagazola Makama that the incident occurred at about 11:37 a.m. on Sept. 26, 2026, when troops of Sector 4, Operation ENDURING PEACE (OPEP), deployed at Dorowa, responded to a report of an attack at the mining site.
The troops, upon arrival at the location, discovered that six locals had been shot dead by the attackers, while two others sustained gunshot wounds.
The injured victims were identified as Samuel Mamod and Private Mamod Francis Samuel, who was reportedly on pass at the time of the attack.
The two injured victims were evacuated to the General Hospital, Barkin Ladi, for medical attention.
Following the attack, troops have intensified security operations around Dorowa, Babuje, Marit and Lajam communities to prevent further attacks and de-escalate tensions in the affected areas.
The latest incident adds to the growing security concerns in Barkin Ladi, where attacks, reprisals and communal tensions have continued to threaten lives and livelihoods.
Security forces are expected to sustain patrols and intelligence-led operations in the affected communities to identify the perpetrators and prevent further escalation.
