The Headquarters, 63 Brigade, Nigerian Army, has confirmed the killing of a suspected criminal in self-defence during a confrontation with a soldier at the Delta Marine Logistics and Technical (DMLT) Estate, Warri, Delta State.
The incident, which occurred on Oct. 13, followed an attempt by a group of individuals to force their way into the estate without undergoing routine security checks.
A statement issued by the Brigade on Tuesday said the soldier on duty halted the group and demanded their identities, but they became aggressive and violent.
According to the statement, the situation escalated into a physical struggle, during which the soldier acted in self-defence and used armed combat skills to subdue one of the attackers, who was later confirmed dead in hospital.
It added that the Otu-Jeremi Police Division was immediately notified for necessary action.
The Brigade urged residents of Delta State to remain law-abiding and comply with established security procedures, reaffirming its commitment to respect for human rights while performing its statutory duties.
