Suspected Armed Herders Kill One, Injure Another in Benue Community

Troops of Operation Whirl Stroke (OPWS) have responded to a distress call following an attack by suspected armed herders on residents of Chikor in Logo Local Government Area of Benue State.

 

Security sources disclosed that the incident occurred at about 4:30 a.m. on May 30, when troops deployed at Ayilamo moved to the scene after receiving reports of the attack.

 

According to the sources, the attackers reportedly invaded the community and opened fire on residents, killing one person and injuring another before fleeing the area.

 

The sources said troops, on arrival, confirmed the casualty figures and immediately evacuated the injured victim to Ayin General Hospital, where he is currently receiving medical attention.

 

They further disclosed that the remains of the deceased were released to the family for burial in accordance with local customs.

 

Security personnel have since intensified patrols and maintained a strong presence in the general area to prevent further attacks and restore calm.

 

The sources added that efforts were ongoing to track down the fleeing suspects and curb further security breaches within the affected communities.

 

Residents were urged to remain vigilant and support security agencies with timely and credible information that could assist ongoing operations in the area.

 

Operation Whirl Stroke reaffirmed its commitment to ensuring peace and security across Benue State and surrounding operational areas.
