Suspected Armed Robber Dies in Hospital After Gunshot Wounds Sustained During Shootout with Troops

A suspected armed robber, Mustapha Haruna, has died while receiving treatment at a hospital in Plateau State after sustaining gunshot wounds during an exchange of fire with troops of Operation Enduring Peace (OPEP) in Bassa Local Government Area.
Security sources said Haruna was wounded during a gun battle with troops at Yelwa Zangam village in Bassa LGA in an earlier security operation.
The sources said the suspect, who had been receiving treatment at the Plateau State Hospital, was confirmed dead at about 6:58 a.m. on Friday.
According to the sources, his remains were deposited at the old Jos University Teaching Hospital (JUTH) mortuary pending further necessary action.
The sources added that the incident followed an earlier operation in which troops engaged the suspect in a firefight during efforts to apprehend him.
