Suspected Fulani militias have reportedly killed six people and injured two others in an attack on Gero community in Jos South Local Government Area of Plateau State.

Security sources said the attack occurred at about 9:30 p.m. on Oct. 26, when troops of Sector 6, Operation Enduring Peace (OPEP), deployed in Gero, responded to reports of sporadic gunshots in the community.

The sources said the troops, while advancing towards the community, engaged the suspected assailants in a confrontation, forcing them to flee towards the Gero High Grounds and Rafin Bauna axis.

Upon reaching the community, the troops discovered six residents who had been killed in the attack, while two others sustained gunshot wounds.

The injured victims were evacuated to a general hospital for medical attention.

Following the incident, troops launched a manhunt for the fleeing attackers, with efforts ongoing to track them down and prevent further attacks in the area.

The latest attack adds to the security concerns in parts of Plateau State, where recurring violence has claimed lives and heightened tensions among communities.

Security agencies have continued operations across the state to protect residents, contain threats and restore lasting peace.
