Suspected ISWAP Fighter Surrenders to Troops in Borno

A suspected member of the Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP) also known as Boko Haram, has surrendered to troops of Operation Hadin Kai in Monguno Local Government Area of Borno State.

 

Security sources said  that the incident, reported belatedly, occurred at about 9:30 a.m. on June 23.

 

The sources said the suspect surrendered to troops of Sector 3 Multinational Joint Task Force/242 Reconnaissance Battalion deployed at Charlie 4 in Monguno.

 

During preliminary interrogation, the suspect claimed he had escaped from the terrorist camp at Kusuma in Marte Local Government Area of the state.

 

The troops recovered one mobile phone, ₦1,700 in cash and other personal effects from the suspect.

 

The sources added that the suspect remains in military custody and is undergoing profiling and further investigation.
