A suspected phone snatcher has been arrested by security personnel at the Federal University of Education, Pankshin, Plateau State, following intelligence on alleged phone-snatching activities on the campus.

The suspect, identified as Musa Jibril, a native of Bokkos, was reportedly tracked by campus security personnel before he was apprehended while allegedly attempting to carry out another phone-snatching operation within the university premises.

Sources said the suspect was also alleged to have impersonated a military officer, although the circumstances surrounding the alleged impersonation were still being investigated.

During preliminary questioning, the suspect reportedly admitted involvement in phone-snatching incidents on the campus.

The arrest followed heightened security awareness over reports of criminal activities targeting members of the university community, particularly students.

Security authorities are expected to conduct further investigations to establish the suspect’s network, determine whether he was acting alone and ascertain his involvement in other reported incidents on campus.

The development has prompted renewed calls for students, staff and visitors to remain vigilant and immediately report suspicious movements or activities to campus security personnel.

Members of the university community have also been advised to take reasonable precautions in safeguarding their phones and other valuables, particularly in crowded areas and isolated sections of the campus.

Security personnel are continuing efforts to strengthen surveillance and maintain a safe environment for teaching, learning and other academic activities at the institution.
