A herdsman has reportedly gone missing in a suspected cow rustling  incident in Riyom Local Government Area of Plateau State.

Security sources said a farmer, Mr. Sule Madaki, reported that four entered into his farmland without the owner at Fangorong village in Ganawuri community.

The livestock were subsequently intercepted and handed over to security operatives following intervention by troops of Operation Enduring Peace.

However, it was gathered that the herder in charge of the cattle was not immediately located after the incident, raising concerns within the community over his whereabouts.

Sources said such incidents have in the past resulted in either missing herders or situations where cattle are allegedly rustled and later abandoned within communities, often escalating tensions between farmers and pastoralists.

Security operatives said efforts were ongoing, in collaboration with community leaders and relevant stakeholders, to ascertain the whereabouts of the missing herder and prevent any reprisal actions.
