Three persons sustained injuries following an explosion caused by live ammunition at a blacksmith’s workshop in Buni Yadi, Gujba Local Government Area of Yobe State.
Intelligence sources told Zagazola Makama that the incident, which occurred at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday at Baba Ali Blacksmith’s workshop, involved a 22-year-old man who had collected one live AA round and four AK-47 rounds from the bush while fetching firewood.
The man attempted to open the ammunition to see its contents, despite efforts by a 14-year-old boy, the blacksmith’s son, to stop him. In the process, he struck the ammunition with a hammer, triggering an explosion.
The blast left three persons injured, with one suffering a fracture and two sustaining bruises. The victims, aged 14, 20, and 22, were promptly evacuated to Yobe State Specialist Hospital, Buni Yadi, for medical treatment.
Authorities have cautioned residents against handling unexploded ordnance or live ammunition, emphasizing the dangers posed by explosive remnants of war (ERW) in conflict-affected areas.
