Three family members of terrorists have escaped from the Zarmari terrorist enclave and surrendered to troops of the Nigerian Army in Bama Local Government Area of Borno State.

Security sources said the individuals surrendered at about 11:45 a.m. on Oct. 17 to troops of the 202 Battalion and 21 Special Armoured Brigade deployed at Kilo Papa, Bama LGA.

Preliminary investigations revealed that the three individuals fled the enclave due to hardship and persistent clashes involving Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP) fighters.

The sources said the surrendered individuals were subsequently taken into military custody for screening, interrogation and further necessary action.

Their surrender comes amid continued military operations against terrorist groups in the North-East, where internal rivalries, sustained security pressure and difficult living conditions have reportedly contributed to movements among members of insurgent communities.
