President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has condemned the recent terrorist attacks in Maiduguri, Borno State, describing them as desperate attempts by criminal elements to instil fear.

Tinubu, in a statement issued from the State House, expressed deep sorrow over the loss of lives, while sympathising with the injured and residents of the state.

“The recent news from Maiduguri is profoundly upsetting. I mourn those who lost their lives, sympathise with the injured and stand in solidarity with the people of Borno during this challenging time,” he said.

The President stated that the attacks were the “final desperate and frantic attempts” by terrorists who are under sustained pressure from security forces across various theatres of operation.

He assured Nigerians that the Federal Government would intensify efforts to eliminate all criminal elements across the country.

Tinubu commended troops of the Nigerian Armed Forces and other security agencies for their courage in repelling coordinated attacks on military positions in the state.

He described the incidents as acts of desperation by “evil-minded terrorist groups,” adding that the military and civilian task forces would decisively curtail their activities.

The President disclosed that he had recently approved additional equipment and operational support for security agencies following a meeting with security and intelligence chiefs.

According to him, the directive is already being implemented to enhance operational effectiveness.

Tinubu also directed security chiefs to relocate to Maiduguri to take charge of the situation, while instructing emergency agencies to provide adequate care for the injured.

“There is no place in Nigeria where terrorists will find safety. We will locate them, confront them, and completely defeat them. Nigeria will not succumb to fear,” the President said.
