Tinubu orders army battalion to Kaiama, condemns attack, mourns victims

President Bola Tinubu has ordered the immediate deployment of an army battalion to Kaiama Local Government Area of Kwara State following a deadly overnight attack on Worro community by terrorists suspected to be Boko Haram.

The President said the new military command would spearhead Operation Savannah Shield to checkmate the attackers and protect vulnerable communities in the area.

In a statement issued on Tuesday by his Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Mr Bayo Onanuga, Tinubu condemned the assault, describing it as “cowardly and beastly,” and said the gunmen deliberately targeted defenceless villagers.

The President expressed anger that the assailants killed community members who rejected attempts to indoctrinate them with extremist ideology.

“It is commendable that the community members, even though Muslims, refused to be conscripted into a weird belief that promotes violence over peace and dialogue,” Tinubu said.

He directed federal and state agencies to work closely to provide relief to the affected residents and ensure that those responsible for the atrocities are brought to justice.

Tinubu also prayed for the repose of the souls of the victims and condoled with their families, as well as the people and government of Kwara State.

The President assured residents of the area of the Federal Government’s resolve to restore security and prevent a recurrence of such attacks.
