Troops arrest 14 suspected criminals, recover equipment in Plateau

Troops of Operation Enduring Peace (OPEP) have arrested 14 suspected criminals and recovered mining equipment, motorcycles and other items during a raid operation in Jos South Local Government Area of Plateau State.
It was gathered that the operation was conducted at about 9:30 a.m. on Sept. 7, 2026, by troops of Sector 1, Sub-Sector 12, OPEP, who raided a location suspected to be harbouring criminals behind the New Government House along Shinko Road.
During the operation, the troops apprehended seven suspected illegal miners and recovered one pumping machine, three hoses and an excavator.
While returning from the site, the troops also apprehended seven suspected hoodlums and recovered seven motorcycles, four mobile phones and a substance suspected to be cannabis.
The suspects were subsequently profiled and handed over to Headquarters, Joint Task Force OPEP, for further action.
The operation forms part of ongoing efforts by security forces to curb criminal activities, illegal mining and other security threats in Plateau State.
