Troops Arrest Five Suspected Illegal Security Operatives in Abuja

Troops of 176 Guards Battalion have arrested five suspects following reports of gunshots around Tukpeshi Junction in Kuje Area Council of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).
Security sources said the troops responded to the distress report at about 11:05 a.m. on May 16, 2026.
According to the sources, the suspects claimed to be members of the Oodua Peoples Congress deployed to provide protection for a plot of land in the area.
The troops reportedly recovered one locally fabricated firearm, three cartridges and an identification card belonging to the group from the suspects.
The arrested suspects and recovered items were subsequently handed over to the Nigeria Police Force for further investigation and action.
Security authorities said efforts were ongoing to determine the legality of the suspects’ activities and possible links to the reported gunshots in the area.
