Troops Arrest Herder Over Alleged Farm Destruction in Benue

Troops of Operation Whirl Stroke (OPWS) have arrested a herder over alleged destruction of farmland in Makurdi Local Government Area of Benue State.
Security sources said the incident occurred at about 12:00 p.m. on May 3 when troops of Sector 1, deployed at Anule, responded to a report of cattle grazing on cultivated land.
The sources disclosed that upon arrival, the troops apprehended the herder whose cattle were allegedly grazing on the farm and causing significant damage.
According to the sources, the suspect was subsequently handed over to the Nigeria Police for further investigation and necessary action.
They added that efforts are ongoing to prevent recurrence of such incidents through sustained patrols and community engagement.
The sources noted that security agencies remain committed to maintaining peace between farmers and herders in the area.
