Troops arrest suspect, neutralise terrorist spy in Borno operation

Combined troops of the Nigerian Army have conducted a cordon and search operation in Bama Local Government Area of Borno State, leading to the arrest of a suspect and the neutralisation of a terrorist spy.

 

Security sources said the operation was carried out at about 12:01 a.m. on April 16, 2026, by troops of 202 Battalion and 21 Special Armoured Brigade.

 

The operation covered areas including Customs, an Internally Displaced Persons (IDP) camp, and Gwange community.

 

According to the sources, one civilian was apprehended during the operation while in possession of a soldier’s personal effects and uniforms, as well as a Dane gun and other items.

 

In a related development, troops reportedly sighted a suspected terrorist spy attempting to flee from the rear vicinity of a prison facility during the operation.

 

The sources said efforts to apprehend the suspect were unsuccessful, and he was subsequently neutralised.

 

The arrested suspect is currently in custody, while further investigation is ongoing to ascertain the extent of involvement in criminal activities.

 

Security operations continue across the area to sustain pressure on terrorist elements and prevent infiltration into civilian communities.
