Troops of the Joint Task Force North East Operation Hadin Kai have arrested a suspected foreign national during a checkpoint operation along the Damaturu–Potiskum road in Yobe State.

Security sources said the suspect, identified as Abdulrazak Muhammad, 31, was intercepted at about 030900A on April 3 by troops of 233 Tank Battalion deployed on checkpoint duty.

The suspect, described as a Ghanaian from Accra, was found without valid means of identification at the time of arrest.

He was reportedly in possession of three mobile phones without SIM cards, a handwritten notebook, and a small amount of foreign currency estimated at 3 Ghanaian cedis and 50 pesewas.

During preliminary questioning, the suspect was said to have given inconsistent accounts of his nationality and movement, claiming at different times to have come from Mali, Ghana, and Nigeria, while also stating he was a student in Ghana.

Troops further noted that the suspect appeared incoherent regarding his destination and purpose of travel.

The suspect is currently in custody for further investigation to determine his identity, movements, and possible security implications.
