Troops of 3 Division of the Nigerian Army, operating under Operation SAFE HAVEN, have arrested two suspected gunrunners and kidnappers in Barkin Ladi Local Government Area of Plateau State.
Sources told Zagazola Makama that the suspects, identified as Yahaya Adamu and Saeedu Haruna, were arrested during a series of intelligence led operations conducted in collaboration with a security intelligence agency.
The source said that Adamu was first arrested on May 10 in Barakin Gangare, Barkin Ladi LGA.
The arrest led to a follow-up operation on May 11 in Marit Mazat, same LGA, where troops apprehended Haruna and recovered an AK-47 rifle, one AK-47 magazine, and an Itel mobile phone.
Preliminary investigations revealed that the suspects and their syndicate have been responsible for various criminal activities in Gashish and Kurra Falls in Barkin Ladi, as well as Gwantu and Fadan Karshe in Sanga LGA of Kaduna State.
The source said both suspects are currently in custody and providing useful information to aid ongoing investigations and further arrests.
“Efforts are underway to apprehend other fleeing members of the syndicate and recover additional weapons,” the source said.
