Troops of the Nigerian Army’s 6 Division have arrested two suspected illegal oil bunkerers while allegedly transporting about 50 litres of illegally refined Automotive Gas Oil (AGO) in Rivers State.
The suspects were apprehended at about 4:30 p.m. on Aug. 6 around the Agha general area of the state, according to a military source.
The troops reportedly intercepted the suspects while they were conveying the illegally refined petroleum product on a motorcycle.
The two suspects and the recovered product have been taken into military custody for further investigation and appropriate action.
The arrest forms part of ongoing efforts by the security forces to curb illegal oil bunkering and other activities contributing to economic losses in the Niger Delta.
